Lilly!

We have a new member of the family who Xia found at the Watsonville shelter. Boy is she cute - a two year old spaniel mix. Lilly loves to learn, take walks, to cuddle, and to munch on brocolli. When she isn't trying to entice the cats to play with her, she is looking at us as if to say "teach me a new trick!".

Cooling off.......

Soon after the heat spell and fires, we got back to normal Santa Cruz summer weather. Now we're back to 60 degree foggy mornings. You just almost want to kick on the heat when you get up now, but you think better of it and throw on big fuzzy slippers and the unflattering yet cozy L.L. Bean robe. Afternoons we see warmer tempuratures with a breeze and sun. Appreciating the normal weather a lot more today!

It's hot, let's trot!

 

Our neighbors five miles up the hill had to evacuate their homes on Wednesday night due to this forest fire. (This view is from UCSC, posted on Flickr) A combination of gusty winds and hot weather fueled this up pretty quick. Seems to be contained now. Fortunatley, since Wednesday, temperatures have dropped, humidity is up. We are enjoying a cool foggy morning now. I'm sure the folks up in Bonny Doone like this weather quite a bit.

Back in the game

Xia and I had a few setbacks this winter with minor injuries. Her back, eye and ankle sent us to the ER. Then I slipped and fractured my wrist! Back to the doc. Geez. We are both on the mend. Therapy for this, shots for that. But mostly time and good fortune are what we need now.

Sun is out, Spring is here. We're back in the game! (with trepidation....) Getting caught up on the piles and piles of school work. Mission Hill Middle (Xia), San Jose State University Graduate Studies (Jenny) and Pajaro Valley Unified School District (Jenny) taking all of our focus now.

We did make it up the San Francisco for a family gathering. Also on a separate trip we went up to celebrate Xia's birthday with Joann and Eric. Joann gave us the Bart and Muni grand tour.
